Blank popup Vimalin
#1
Hi Wila,
We have a computer with Windows 11 Pro 64-bit 25H2.
We installed the latest VmWare Workstation Pro 26H1 and installed the latest Vimalin for Windows 2.6.645.
After installation when we start Vimalin, we get a blank screen.

We tried installing VmWare Workstation Pro 17 (latest) and removing and reinstalling Vimalin.
But the problem persists.
We also tried earlier version of Vimaliin and the problem stayed.

Do you have a solution for me ?

Hi,

I've never seen that before ... and do wonder what that little tidbit is that it does show in the middle?

One thing to try is to go to the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Vimalin\Resources
and look for the files:
Jet.Style
and
Jet.Win.Style

and rename those files to for example
_Jet.Style
and
_Jet.Win.Style

Then start again and see if that makes a difference.

You might also want to try re-downloading the installer as maybe it's a broken download causing this?

It certainly is a weird one.

Oh and Vimalin doesn't depend on Workstation for it's user interface, so it doesn't matter which version of Workstation you have installed for this particular issue.

edit: You mentioned you already tried an earlier version, so I would say that rules out "broken download" issue.
Does it help if you resize the panel?

Hi Wila,
Thanks for your reply. The tidbit you see is from Display Fusion , we use it to manage multiple monitors on one computer.
We use remote access to manage our hosts and virtual machine.

For now I can not do the changes you suggested, because it was time critical to contimue and we quickly reinstalled the Windows 11.
After just installing Windows 11 (same version), Remote Access software, VmWare Workstatio, we were able to install the earlier Vimalin installer without any problem.

However we made a backup of the "bad" Windows 11 host (CSmile, so I hope we will be able to restore and test later Smile

Hi,

Glad to hear that you got it to work now.
Really weird..

Forgot to say that I'm also testing with Windows 11 Pro 25H2, so it should not be the Windows version itself.
It might be due to something installed on it, but I have no idea what could cause this.

Just logged into a host running our database server. I need to do some major updates on the database and wanted to make a backup with vmalin first.
I got the same screen as in my original post.
I renamed the jet-files and started Vimalin again and I still get the same "blank" screen.
Host is running: Windows 11 24H2
Vimalin version is: Vimalin 2.6.578
I use Vimalin to backup the whole guest once a week. Last backup was 4 days ago on 2-10-2026.
So the service is working, just the GUI is not.

For now I am gonna leave it like this and copy the guest manually to another drive.
So if uou need some info or files, let me now  Big Grin

Hi,

That's a different server I take? Not the original one with the 'blank popup' issue?
I'm wondering if the remote tool (Display Fusion) you're using is part of the issue as I really never heard about it before. Plus it appears to be interfering with drawing on a dialog, which does make it suspect.
Guess we gotta test that to see if it can be isolated.

Anyways what I wanted to say is, please try the public beta of Vimalin 3.0.
It's compiled with the latest version of our development tool and perhaps that helps already.

See:
https://www.vimalin.com/downloads/

The beta downloads are at the bottom.

Hi Wil,
Yes different host with "the same" problem.
On this computer, there is no Display fusion installed.
I just unstalled the old Vimalin and installed the v3.0676 beta, to no avail.
I still get the blankscreen.
Running it with RunAs administrator also did not work.
Some extra info, both machine were running different VmWare workstation 24H2 vs 15.5.7.
However on both system we installed "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client v6.6.0"
Het might also just be a Windows 11 update breaking things Big Grin

Hi,

Strange. It would not expect it to be due to Windows 11 update breaking things as then it wouldn't only involve Vimalin.
Not seeing this reported by other developers using the same development environment.
Although this was working for you in the past, so it is unclear to me as to what has changed?

No need to use RunAs administrator. Vimalin should be installed using the same user that also runs VMware Workstation.
Installing as another user might even cause problems (although I think that I got that covered now).
Workstation versions should not matter and I also fail to see how the vCenter Converter would interfere with the GUI of Vimalin.

Let's proceed by email and see if we can figure this out.

As a follow up for anyone reading along.
This actually did turn out to be some sort of Windows Update issue (or similar) as the issue resolved itself automatically.
