How-to install
The installer will take care of old versions of Vimalin and uninstall them before running the installer. If you keep defaults during uninstall you are fine and nothing changes.
Here's the list of changes since version 2.6.645:
General fixes
- You can now backup encrypted VM's that are running after setting the password for said VM in the Jobs screen. This means that making backups for Windows 11 VM's with vTPM is now fully supported.
- Vimalin is now 64 bit.
- Support for using a Microsoft account under Windows 11, you can select this during the install. As a result the installer won't need you to set a password. This should also work if you don't use a Microsoft account (but it needs some more testing).
SmartScreen Defender note:
We got a new EV certificate for signing our software and Microsoft has changed the rules for EV certificates.
Previously using an EV certificate meant that the software is "safe to install" as the developer paid a significant amount of money for that ability. Now that by itself is no longer the case and a new certificate means "untrusted" until the publisher has build up new reputation.

So you might get already problems during the download as MS Edge now considers the software to be "not commonly downloaded" and you have to click through 4 or so non obvious ways in order to get the installer to run.
There's nothing we can do, except hoping that Microsoft will start trusting our bits and bytes again. The EV certificate was supposed to take care of this, we pay extra for our users not getting this inconvenience, but alas.
